British family could not pay for hospital in Antalya

The British family, who could not afford the Antalya hospital, started a donation drive

The family of a 79-year-old Englishman, who came to Turkey for vacation and was hospitalized due to illness, started an online donation campaign to pay for hospital expenses in Turkey.

According to the news of the British newspaper Daily Mail, the old woman, whose name has not been revealed, suffered a heart attack while visiting her friends in Turkey. The family of the woman, who was diagnosed with pneumonia and transferred to the intensive care unit of the hospital where she was transferred, was surprised to learn that the insurance company would not pay for hospital charges in excess of £100 thousand (2 million 270 thousand TL).

The family of the old woman, who could not pay the increasing costs of the hospital, began to collect donations with the campaign that they started in England.

The woman’s daughter, Lucy Groves, appealed for help in the campaign she started on the GoFundMe site, saying they wanted to take her mother, who had undergone bypass surgery at Antalya hospital, to England, but first they had to pay their debts to the hospital in Turkey and could not pay this amount due to abandonment.

Noting that he also contacted the British consulate in Turkey, Groves said he was only able to contact his mother three times via WhatsApp and that the elderly woman was left alone in a country she did not know.

‘KEEP IN TURKEY’

It was alleged that the hospital confiscated the elderly woman’s passport and did not allow her to make video calls with her family until she paid off her debt. The British newspaper Daily Mail reported the news with the words “British grandmother was taken hostage by Turkish doctors.”

The elderly woman is reported to be currently conscious but is still in intensive care.
