Turkey did not accept… Toxic warship sunk

The Brazilian Navy announced that the Sao Paulo warship, which caused great controversy due to its toxic substances, was sunk in the Atlantic Ocean last night. It was reported that the ship was sunk in a planned manner in an area with a depth of 5,000 meters, 350 kilometers from the Brazilian coast.

Critics described the plan to sink the ship, which was carrying poisonous substances, as a “state-sponsored environmental crime.”

Brazil’s Environment Minister Marina Silva also met with Defense Minister José Mucio to stop the sinking, but the military reported that there was no other option but to sink.

What will happen to the 34,000-tonne ship has long been a matter of controversy. The ship, which was previously scheduled to be taken to Turkey for scrapping, returned to Brazilian shores in the summer after objections from Turkish authorities following backlash.

It was claimed that if the 60-year-old ship, which had been waiting in the southern Atlantic Ocean for months, sank, it would be the biggest piece of junk in the ocean.
