Interesting dress code at EU Kyiv summit: ‘Don’t upstage Zelenskiy’

The dress code applied at the summit where EU leaders met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in kyiv sparked controversy.

According to the Politico story, EU leaders have been instructed to wear clothing that does not overshadow Zelenskiy’s military style, which he accessorized with his famous green shirt, at the kyiv summit. The group, which traveled from Brussels to kyiv, including European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, were asked not to wear too flashy clothing.

In the memorandum sent from the General Secretariat of the European Commission, the participants were instructed to “Avoid the colors green and khaki, wear formal clothes”.

Some EU diplomats who spoke to Politico also confirmed the memo, noting that it was in line with the political message.

Meanwhile, during the summit where new sanctions against Russia and Ukraine’s EU membership were discussed, it was notable that air-raid sirens were heard in Kyiv and in many parts of the country.

“The EU will support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for as long as it takes against Russia’s ongoing war of aggression,” the joint statement made at the summit said.
