Cattle herders attacked the village: 27 dead

Twenty-seven people have been reported killed in an attack on a village in South Sudan by people claiming to be cattle herders.

Kajo-Keji District Commissioner Phanuel Dumo shared the information that he had attacked a village in the southern region of the country, in a statement to the press. Claiming that the attackers were cattle herders, Dumo announced that 27 people in the village were killed in the attack.

“This is a revenge attack,” Dumo said, explaining that the attackers were roaming the town’s houses and killing people. Conflicts between the Bor and Nuer peoples living in the Kajo-Keji region over grazing and land issues are frequent.

South Sudan, which gained independence from Sudan in 2011, has been the scene of decades of bloody feuds, conflicts over cattle and land. (AA)
