Horrible attack in Sweden: Five men attacked a woman, used violence and raped her
New details have emerged of a grisly incident in Sweden, where domestic violence has been on the rise recently.
On October 22, police officers patrolling the city of Malmö noticed activity in a neglected and unused playground. When he approached the scene, the police, who saw 5 men running, intervened in the situation. Hearing a woman call for help in the park, police caught the men after an unidentified woman screamed, “I was raped.”
As the 5 men who attacked the woman in total darkness were detained, the details of the investigation became clear. While the police were claimed to have captured the attackers in the photographs shared in the Swedish media, a remarkable method was used to prevent DNA traces on the hands and attackers from being erased.
Swedish police shared a photo of the park where the attack took place.
The policemen tied the hands of the attackers with the garbage bags they found. Although it was recorded that the attackers were between 15 and 18 years old, it was indicated that the young woman’s DNA was found in four of them.
Kristina Bandrup, the woman’s lawyer, who did not reveal her name, said: “The young men wanted to speak to my client and they talked for a while. But when he got to the park, the attack began. They squeezed his neck and sexually assaulted him,” she said.
However, in the Swedish media news, it turned out that the young people described the situation in a very different way. While the young man said that the situation was the opposite and that it all started based on consent, one of the 18-year-old assailants commented: “For a crime we did not commit, our record is going to be broken.”
Police wrapped the hands of the assailants they caught with bags, ensuring no DNA traces were lost.
Friends of the young woman said: “A lot has changed since October 22. She used to be a very cheerful and outgoing person. She now she has closed. She doesn’t want to go to school,” she commented.
The sentence of the young people who appeared again before the judge today was clear. The 18-year-old attacker was sentenced to 5 years in prison, while the two 17-year-old attackers were sentenced to one year in prison. The 16-year-old attacker was sentenced to 10 months in prison, while the 15-year-old attacker received a 1-year probationary sentence.
