Serbia: We will not impose sanctions on Russia
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declared that his country will not impose sanctions on Russia and will not break relations with the West.
Vucic made statements at the end of the Serbian Assembly session, in which the Franco-German Plan, supported by the US and the European Union (EU), to resolve the Kosovo problem was widely discussed. Emphasizing that a difficult period is ahead for his country, Vucic said: “Serbia will not abandon negotiations, break relations with the West and impose sanctions on Russia.”
Serbian leader Vucic said: “I’m not enthusiastic about this situation, but I don’t know how long we can last if we don’t impose sanctions (on Russia). “We are paying the price for not implementing these sanctions, but it is a matter of political commitment from our leadership,” he said.
Noting that after the war in Ukraine, the situation was not the same as before, Aleksandar Vucic said that the Western powers are trying to solve the “problem” in Kosovo as soon as possible. The parliamentary session is expected to continue tomorrow.
TENSION IN THE ASSEMBLY OF SERBIA
There was tension in the session of the Serbian Parliament, which began yesterday morning and discussed the issue of Kosovo and the Franco-German Plan.
As President Aleksandar Vucic was speaking, opposition lawmakers interrupted the Serbian leader’s speech, claiming he violated the rules of procedure, chanting “Treason” and “We will not surrender Kosovo.” Although there was tension in Parliament due to the desire of the pro-government deputies to intervene in the event, there was a short-term physical intervention between the pro-government and opposition deputies.
Vucic, for his part, described the deputies who wanted to interrupt him as “traitors”. (AA)
