‘The Epidemic Is Over’ Bill Passes the US House of Representatives
Lawmakers in the Republican-dominated House of Representatives voted on a bill that would immediately end the “public health emergency” declared in 2020, when Donald Trump was president, due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The bill, titled “The epidemic is over,” was accepted with 220 “yes” votes to 210 “no” votes.
Republicans, who oppose a series of public health regulations such as the requirement for vaccinations and masks that come with the epidemic, said last year US President Joe Biden “the Covid-19 epidemic is over.” . Referring to the pronouncement, he brought the bill in question to the agenda.
The White House Office of Management and Budget announced yesterday that the “national emergency” and the “public health emergency” for Covid-19 will be lifted on May 11 “to avoid confusion and uncertainty in health systems.”
The bill in question is not expected to go to the Senate, where Democrats are in the majority. However, if it passes the Senate, Biden has announced that he will veto the bill. (AA)
