The Washington Post first wrote “the US is training the PKK”, then denied it.
A news caption in the January 28, 2023 edition of the Washington Post newspaper included the phrase “US soldiers training PKK members in September.”
With the photograph taken in the Hasakah region of Syria, it was claimed that, for the first time in the US press, the organization the US military called the SDF was accepted as the same organization as the PKK.
The Washington Post administration, which published a written statement on Anadolu Agency’s questions on the issue, used the following statements:
“The Getty photo in the internal columns of our January 28 issue and used in the news about women serving in the Special Operations Forces contained false information that US forces were training PKK militants. US forces were not training members of the PKK that were operating in Turkey and Iraq and identified as terrorist organizations by the US.”
HE WAS USED TO TRAIN THE PKK
The photograph used in the Washington Post newspaper story was published by Anadolu Agency on September 7, 2022 and was released to international media with the agreement of Getty Images.
In the photographs taken by the AA photojournalist at Haseke camp in northern Syria, there were stills of the training given by US soldiers to 240 PKK/YPG members and US Bradley-type armored vehicles.
US helicopters also conducted reconnaissance flights at the training area.
Leading the coalition against the terrorist organization DAESH, the US had previously supported the PKK/YPG terrorists in Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor lands east of the Euphrates with various training and armed exercises.
The United States and its coalition forces have provided armed training to thousands of PKK/YPG terrorists since 2015.
The US administration and media, ignoring all warnings from Turkey since the beginning of the civil war in Syria, do not accept that the YPG is an extension of the PKK terrorist organization.
In the face of Turkey’s opposition and the US declaration of support for the terrorist organization, the US suggested that the PKK/YPG terrorist organization use the name SDG. (AA)
