Lavrov: Russia will support normalization efforts between Turkey and Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Semih Shukri, whom he met in the framework of his contacts in Egypt. To a question from a member of the press, Lavrov stated that Russia supports the efforts for the normalization of relations between Turkey and Syria and that they are ready to increase initiatives to continue this effort.

Lavrov stressed that they generally support the development of relations between the two neighboring countries. Regarding Iran’s participation in the effort to normalize Turkey-Syria relations, Lavrov stressed that Russia, Turkey and Iran are part of the Astana format, and that he agrees on this issue in principle and it would be logical for Iran to join. to these efforts.
