Impressive remote work research: Turks put back the time they save on the commute

The US National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) has published its research titled “Time Saving While Working From Home”. The research, signed by Cevat Giray Aksoy, Jose Maria Barrero, Nicholas Bloom, Steven J. Davis, Mathias Dolls and Pablo Zarate, examines the time people save by traveling while working from home during the Covid-19 period and how it is evaluate.
EMPLOYEES EARN ON AVERAGE 72 MINUTES A DAY
According to research conducted in 27 countries, including Turkey, employees earned an average of 72 minutes per day through remote work. However, he spent 40 percent of this time working again. Time assigned by employees to themselves remained at 34 percent.
The biggest time savers are in China with 102 minutes, Japan with 100 minutes and India with 99 minutes. The shortest time is held by Serbia with 51 minutes, Poland with 54 minutes and the United States with 55 minutes.
In some other countries this time is as follows: Holland 77 minutes, England, Russia and Egypt 73 minutes, Germany and Canada 65 minutes and France 62 minutes.
According to NBER’s research, employees were again spending 40 percent of their time at work. The proportion of time spent at work from time savings is 39 percent in Turkey. In other words, employees in Turkey spent 27 minutes of their daily average of 69 minutes saved on the road.
The countries with less time saved to work are Germany and Spain. According to the research, those who spend the most time for themselves while working remotely are in Germany and Austria. 46 percent time savings in Germany; In Austria, 45 percent was spent on leisure activities. The rate assigned to leisure activities in Turkey is 33 percent, while the average for the 27 countries in the survey is 34 percent.
On the other hand, the average amount of time allocated to “care activities” such as childcare and homeschooling was 11 percent. The rate of time spent on maintenance in Turkey is 12 percent, the country with the highest rate is Serbia with 17 percent. The lowest rates are found in Singapore and South Korea at 6 percent.
