German Chancellor Scholz visited Brazil
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz paid an official visit to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Scholz was received with a ceremony by Lula at the Planalto Presidential Palace in the capital, Brasilia.
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Lula and Scholz will address key issues on the international agenda, including peace and security, the energy transition, climate change, in the context of the reactivation of the strategic alliance between the two countries.
During the meeting of leaders, it was reported that the trade agreements signed between the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) and the European Union (EU) in 2019 but not implemented due to lack of parliamentary approval will also be discussed.

Stating that international law and order has been violated, Scholz said: “As democracies, we must prevent the return of pecking order. “I am happy that Brazil has taken a very clear position on the conflict at the United Nations,” he said.
The Brazilian contacts concluded with a dinner offered by Lula in honor of Scholz at the Itamaraty Palace.
On the other hand, Scholz made the first visit of the Prime Minister to Lula, who assumed the presidency on January 1. Scholz, who made his first visit to Argentine President Alberto Fernández on January 29 as part of his tour of Latin America, met with Chilean President Gabriel Boric yesterday. (AA)
