Staff evacuated from the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran
The Tehran Embassy staff and their families, who arrived in Baku by plane, were received by Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Halef Halefov and ministry officials. The body of the head of security, First Lieutenant Orhan Askerov, who died a martyr in the attack, was brought in by the same plane.
Halefov, in statements to the press, said that the attack on the Tehran Embassy was an act of terrorism.
Stating that they did not expect such an event to happen, Halefov said: “This is unacceptable. Under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, each state is responsible for the security of its embassies. Iran bears the responsibility for the naturally occurring terrorist attack. Iran, in accordance with its obligation, must investigate the terrorist act comprehensively, in all aspects and in a transparent manner, identify the criminals and the forces behind them, and punish them. This is our clear demand from Iran.” saying.
“WE DO NOT DEPEND ON IRAN”
Noting that they plan to use the relevant international mechanisms to shed light on the incident, Halefov said, “Although it was a difficult decision, our president made the decision to evacuate the Tehran Embassy. Stopping the embassy activity, diplomatic activity in any country is a decision that requires responsibility. But we have no hope or confidence in Iran in terms of ensuring the safety of our embassy staff.” he used his statements.
Emphasizing that they are deeply saddened by the martyrdom in the neighboring country, Halefov said: “The diplomatic activity of the Tehran Embassy has completely stopped. There will be 5 people to protect the building and property, but these people will not participate in diplomatic activities. Our Consulate General in Tabriz will continue to function.” he shared the knowledge of it.
