Death toll rises from 5.8-magnitude quake in Iran

Speaking to the Fars news agency, Khoy Governor Zebihullah Kazimi shared the latest information on the people who lost their lives in the quake. Kazimi noted that the death toll had risen to three.

Iran’s emergency director, Mucteba Khalidi, also stated that the number of wounded was approaching 1,000.

Khalidi said: “So far, 973 people have requested assistance in hospitals in West Azerbaijan province in the Khoy earthquake.” saying.

It was noted that relief efforts are continuing in 70 villages in the quake-damaged region.

According to the information on the website of the Presidency of Disaster and Emergency Management, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake occurred at a depth of 6.49 kilometers in the city of Hoy, Iran, at 21:44 local time yesterday.

West Azerbaijan Governor Muhammed Sadik Mutedediyan announced that 2 people lost their lives and 664 people were injured in the quake. (AA)
