President Emmanuel Macron’s government wants to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said on Sunday that this plan is not under discussion and will not be negotiated. Borne has indicated that he is open to small adjustments to pension reform, such as changes for people who started working at a young age.
New demonstrations
But for the unions a retirement age of 64 is unacceptable. They are hoping for an even greater mobilization of protesters next Tuesday. In Paris, among other things, a large demonstration is planned. There was also a nationwide protest earlier this month attended by more than 1 million French people in several cities.
