8 billion euro natural gas deal between Libya and Italy

The Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdulhamid Dibeybe, the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, the President of the Italian gas company ENI, Claudio Desvalzi, and the President of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), Ferhat Ömer bin Kıdara attended the signing ceremony held in the capital Tripoli.

GOAL TO PRODUCE 800 MILLION CUBIC METERS OF NATURAL GAS

NOC Chairman Bin Kıdara, who signed the deal on behalf of Libya, said the deal is worth 8 billion euros and will run for 3 years.

Noting that the exploration activities of the regional countries in the Mediterranean were also taken into account in the agreement, Bin Kıdara stated that the European Union (EU) countries also guaranteed their energy resources.

Bin Kıdara stated that the agreement covers the development of fields whose total reserves are estimated at 6 trillion cubic meters and aims to produce 800 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

Claudio Desvalzi, president of the Italian energy company ENI, said: “We signed the most important agreement in the last 20 years.” saying.

Desvalzi, who said that an important part of the energy demand will be covered with the agreement, emphasized that it includes not only natural gas but also electricity. (AA)
