Kremlin: US accusations against Wagner are unfounded
Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov, speaking to reporters in the capital Moscow, assessed the US definition of the Wagner group as a “major transnational criminal organization.”
Stating that the United States has been making such statements against Wagner for years, Peskov said: “This is not the first time we have heard such statements from Washington aimed at demonizing Wagner. This has been going on for many years,” he said. Stating that there is no evidence of the accusations against Wagner, Peskov said: “However, such statements by Washington are unfounded. We have never seen or read a clear claim. They talk about the Central African Republic, but no evidence is presented to the public. This significantly devalues the meaning of Washington’s statements.”
Peskov also spoke about the clemency process for prisoners who fought in Ukraine under Wagner, saying: “I can confirm that the entire prisoner clemency process is carried out in accordance with Russian laws.”
The US administration yesterday defined Wagner as a “major transnational criminal organization” and added to the sanctions list some individuals and organizations affiliated with the group and its founder, Yevgeniy Prigojin. (AA)
