Swedish PM Kristersson: I will not comment on Erdogan’s statement
Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson, Foreign Minister Tobias Billström and Defense Minister Pal Jonson held a joint press conference in Stockholm.
Stating that Sweden experienced the most serious security problem after World War II, Kristersson said: “Some people don’t understand how serious it is for Sweden to join NATO. The troublemakers are trying to block Sweden’s membership. We want to return to a working dialogue with Turkey again. Turkey makes its own decisions, we have to respect that, we want to calm down this process.” he used his statements.
“I WILL NOT COMMENT ON ERDOĞAN’S STATEMENT”
Noting that Finland wants to join NATO together with Sweden, Kristersson said: “Finland still wants to join NATO together with Sweden. If Sweden is prevented from joining NATO, this does not prevent Finland from joining NATO on its own.” saying.
Referring to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s latest statements regarding Sweden, Kristersson said: “I will not comment on Erdogan’s statement. I don’t think anyone has interpreted this as ‘Erdogan closed the door'”, claimed.
Emphasizing that Sweden wants to talk openly about NATO membership, Kristersson said:
“28 countries made individual decisions about the membership of Sweden and Finland in NATO, Turkey makes its own decision. Sweden requires a functioning dialogue to comply with the agreement between Finland and Turkey, and that is not strange. Otherwise this has consequences for Swedish security.”
“THE GOVERNMENT IS FOLLOWING THE SITUATION CLOSELY”
Referring to the burning of the Holy Quran in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm, Swedish Foreign Minister Billström said:
“Book burning has a very dark history. Saying this is not trying to favor Turkey. There are harsh reactions in Turkey and other countries where protests are taking place, such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. Voices arose on social media to boycott Swedish products. The government is monitoring the situation closely.”
Swedish Defense Minister Jonson also stated that they will continue their efforts to make Sweden a NATO member and that this will contribute a lot to Sweden’s security in NATO.
BURN THE KORAN IN SWEDEN
Rasmus Paludan, the leader of the Danish far-right Strict Direction Party, burned the Koran in front of the Stockholm Embassy in Sweden on January 21 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and no one was allowed to approach Paludan during the protest held under the Crowded police protection.
Many Islamic countries, especially Turkey, reacted to the Swedish government’s permission to burn the Koran in Paludan.
Edwin Wagensveld, the leader of the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA) movement in the Netherlands, tore up the Quran in a lone action in The Hague. (AA)
