Hungary supports gas delivery from Azerbaijan to Central Europe

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Szijjarto met Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Cabbarov in the capital Budapest and the two held a joint press conference.

Szijjarto stated that natural gas from Azerbaijan could play an important role in the energy security of Hungary and the Central European region, but that the infrastructure in the region must be developed for this to happen.

Noting that energy resources need to be diversified to ensure energy security, Szijjarto said: “Due to the severe energy crisis, the importance of Azerbaijan for Europe has increased even more. Because in the short and medium term, energy diversification is possible mainly by increasing the amount of natural gas extracted in the South Caucasus country.” saying.

Stating that Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania have requested the European Union (EU) Commission to support the necessary infrastructure works in the region, Szijjarto said they welcome Azerbaijan’s intention to double the pipeline capacity to Europe by 2027.

Stating that there is already strategic cooperation between his country and Azerbaijan, Szijjarto stated that with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Hungary this month, this level will be raised to the level of priority strategic cooperation.

AZERBAIJAN: WE WANT TO INCREASE COOPERATION

Mikayil Cabbarov, on the other hand, stated that economic cooperation between the two countries was discussed at the talks, saying that his country wants to increase cooperation with Hungary in all fields.

Noting that they also support increased cooperation in the field of energy, Kabbarov stated that Azerbaijan is ready to support Hungary’s energy security.

Noting that his country supports energy supply from Turkey, Georgia, Bulgaria, Greece and Italy, Cabbarov said that Romania was also added to this list this year. (AA)
