Venezuela takes to the streets against sanctions

Thousands of supporters of the ruling party in Venezuela held a demonstration due to the international economic sanctions imposed on the country.

According to the state channel VTV, thousands of people who took to the streets in 10 of the country’s 23 states protested the economic blockade and chanted slogans in support of President Nicolás Maduro. President Maduro and members of the government also supported the march organized in the capital Caracas.

In other cities of the country, governors, mayors, deputies and the public, affiliated with the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), demanded that the US lift the sanctions imposed on Venezuela. Criticizing the opposition parties, the PSUV claimed that the 3 billion dollars that were supposed to come from foreign funds belonging to Venezuela were delayed because of the opposition.
“(Negotiations with the Opposition) now, the position of our government is very clear, we do not have to sit with them unless the money confiscated in the funds enters the country,” the PSUV said.

Maduro, who shared photos and videos of the march on his social media account, called for national unity among all the Venezuelan people. “I call on everyone to mobilize against the criminal sanctions that torture the economic and social structure of Venezuela,” Maduro said. Enough of the blockade and the persecution. Our destiny is victory. I congratulate the conscious and patriotic people of Venezuela for this great march. They ran like a torrent in the streets out of love for their country,” he said.

The country’s economy, which has been exposed to economic and political embargoes for many years, had grown after 7 years of contraction. (AA)
