NATO talks to Finland and Sweden from the US.
After meeting with Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the latest situation regarding the two countries’ NATO membership with their Finnish and Swedish counterparts.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price announced that Blinken met with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström. Price said that in Blinken’s meeting with the two ministers, the United States reiterated its support for Sweden’s and Finland’s NATO membership and noted its commitment to bilateral and transatlantic partnerships with these countries.
Stating that Minister Blinken declared that Sweden and Finland are ready to join NATO, Price said: “The United States urges other allies to quickly approve the union of the two countries.”
It should be noted that the US minister’s meeting with the Finnish and Swedish ministers came just after Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu’s visit to Washington. One of the topics on the table at the US-Turkey Strategic Mechanism meeting was the addition of these two countries to NATO. (AA)
