Kremlin: Sending tanks to Ukraine will have serious consequences
Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov responded to questions from reporters in the capital, Moscow.
Peskov, who did not want to “increase” possible tank shipments from some Western countries, especially Germany, to Ukraine, said: “We must not exaggerate the importance of this type of shipment that can change things.” Experts are aware of the problems that accompany this type of shipment. All these tanks need maintenance and repair,” he said.
Stating that a possible shipment of tanks to Ukraine will have negative consequences, Peskov said: “The results will definitely be negative. As we have said before, this kind of shipment will not fundamentally change anything, but it will cause problems for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.”
Noting that NATO is getting more and more involved in the process in Ukraine, Peskov said:
“We are seeing the conflict really evolve in an upward spiral. We see that NATO countries are increasingly involved indirectly and sometimes directly in this conflict. We hear statements that show that this participation continues to increase.”
The most important issue of the Ukrainian contact group, which met today at the US Ramstein airbase in Germany, will be the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz refrained from committing to supplying Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday. Poland and Finland, on the other hand, announced that they are ready to deliver Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. (AA)
