World Economic Forum ends with protests

Environmental and climate activists also protested on the last day of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

A group of activists, who gathered near the area where the WEF took place in Davos, carrying banners against the WEF and calling attention to climate change, criticized governments and other officials who did not take action on it. Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg also came to Davos to support the action of environmentalists.

Maja Redies, one of the climate activists who took part in the protest, said that the richest and most powerful people in the world are in the WEF, adding that they are behind these people and will not keep quiet until they take action on the climate. . and environmental issues. Saying it was disappointing that world leaders didn’t take concrete action on many issues, Redies said: “I hope leaders will take action one day, but I’m not very hopeful about it. “We need to show them our attitude and not tolerate them,” she said.

Anti-WEF climate activists and groups had protested against the WEF and climate change on 15 January.

COLLABORATION IN A FRAGMENTED WORLD

WEF was held for the 53rd time this year with the theme “Collaboration in a Fragmented World”. At the forum, leaders were called upon to “confront the crises facing the world together and develop a coordinated plan of action.”

The forum, in which the leaders of many countries and international organizations and representatives of the business world took place from January 16 to 20, brought together more than 2,700 participants, 50 of whom were heads of state/government, from 130 countries. Within the scope of the forum, especially the economy, the Russia-Ukraine War, the Covid-19 epidemic, technology, energy, climate change, health, migration and the international crisis were the prominent topics in the sessions.
