The Constitutional Court of Slovenia confirms the inadmissibility of the referendum on same-sex marriage

In the ruling of the Constitutional Court, it was affirmed that the referendum, which included changes in the family law, was unacceptable and unconstitutional.

“Parliament has decided that the referendum on same-sex marriage is unacceptable. Based on the request we received, we evaluated this decision. 7 members approved the decision of the assembly, 1 member expressed the opposite opinion.” statements were included.

In the statement, recalling that it is legally acceptable for 2 people of different sex to marry in the country, “it is not legal for same-sex couples to form an official union and cannot adopt children.” the evaluation was done.

The Slovenian National Assembly voted on the referendum on marriage equality in October last year and the majority of parliamentarians decided that this referendum was “unacceptable”.

A non-governmental organization petitioned the Constitutional Court to annul the parliamentary decision. (AA)
