New crisis in the Suez Canal: Freighter ran aground

A cargo ship has reportedly run aground in the Suez Canal in Egypt. In the written statement made on the Twitter account of the cargo company “Leth Agencies”, it is stated that a ship named “Glory”, loaded with grain, ran aground near the Egyptian city of Kantara when it was sailing from the Mediterranean towards to the Red Sea with a grain convoy in the Suez Canal.

Following the announcement, it was reported that the ship was refloated with the effort of tugboats, but there may be some disruption in traffic.

Osama Rabi, head of the Suez Canal Administration, also told Saudi Arabia’s Al-Arabi television that the ship “Glory” ran aground “a bit” and that this did not seriously affect ship traffic in the canal.

Bloomberg noted that the ship carrying 65,000 tons of corn was headed from Ukraine to China. (AA/Reuters)
