Political crisis grows in Bulgaria, early elections are on the way
As the political crisis continued in Bulgaria, the Continue Change (PP) party, which has 53 seats in the 240-member parliament, was unable to form a government.
Former Minister of Education Prof. At the ceremony held in the Presidency, Nikolay Denkov stated that he was unable to obtain the necessary support from the other parties in parliament to obtain a vote of confidence. Denkov declared that he could not form a cabinet and returned his post to President Rumen Radev.
A statement with the work objectives prepared by the PP, which was understood as a “support survey” for the vote of confidence and was described as the road map for the formation of the Government, was rejected in the Parliament session held on 6 from January.
Bulgaria’s Citizens for European Development (GERB) party, led by former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, who previously ruled the country for 12 years until 2021 and is the largest group with 67 members in parliament, also failed to form a government.
According to the constitutional procedure, President Rumen Radev will assign another party to form a government in the parliament, where 7 political parties are represented, in order for the country to emerge from the political crisis. If this attempt fails due to political confrontation between the parties, the President will dissolve parliament and announce the date of early elections.
If the political crisis continues, new early elections are expected in March. Voters in Bulgaria went to the polls 5 times after 2021. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
