EU calls for death in Iran

The Secretary General of the EU Foreign Affairs Service, Stefano Sannino, summoned the Iranian ambassador on 7 January, and on behalf of the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, the EU was shocked by the execution of Mohammed Mehdi Keremi and Seyed Mohammed Husseini in connection with protests in the country reported down.

According to a statement from Borrell’s office, Sannino, who met with Iranian Ambassador Dehgani, reiterated the EU’s call to stop imposing the death penalty on protesters.

Reminding that the EU opposes the death penalty in any case, Sannino stated that the EU and its member states are united against Iran’s actions.

4 PEOPLE EXECUTED

Mahsa Emini, 22, died on September 16 in Tehran, the capital of Iran. After Emini’s death, demonstrations that started in Sakkız, his hometown on September 17, spread across the country and turned into anti-government protests.

Hundreds of demonstrators lost their lives in the protests and more than ten thousand protesters were arrested.

Following the demonstrations, dozens of people were sentenced to death. Muhsin Şikari, who was sentenced to death, was executed on December 8, Mecidrıza Rahneverd on December 12, and Muhammed Mehdi Keremi and Seyid Muhammed Hüseyni on January 7.
