Hungary blocked the entry to the country of 269,000 irregular immigrants
György Bakondi told reporters that the number of irregular migrants who want to enter Hungary and are blocked is constantly increasing, from 122,239 in 2021 to 269,254 in 2022.
Noting that 1,277 human traffickers were caught in the country in 2021, and this number increased to 1,924 in 2022, Bakondi stated that there are currently 2,500 human traffickers in Hungary’s prisons.
Stating that foreign police also work on the protection of the Hungarian-Serbian border, Bakondi said that 237 Czech, 70 Austrian, 50 Turkish and 39 Slovak policemen are working with the Hungarian security forces on the border.
Bakondi stated that most of the irregular migrants arriving from the Balkan route to the Hungarian border are citizens of Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Morocco and India.
Stating that 1,25,667 people came to Hungary from Ukraine last year, Bakondi noted that a total of 210 people applied for asylum.
Bakondi also added that due to the inclusion of Croatia in the Schengen region, the border security forces on the Hungarian-Croatian border were moved to the Hungarian-Serbian border.
HUNGARY MEASURES AGAINST IRREGULAR MIGRANTS
To stop irregular migrants, Hungary erected barbed wire on the borders with Serbia and Croatia, declared a state of emergency in the border regions and increased penalties for illegal crossings.
