Clashes intensify in eastern Ukraine
As the Russia-Ukraine war leaves 10 months behind, conflicts are intensifying in the eastern regions of Ukraine towards the new year.
Ukraine reported that the Russian military fired at least 33 missiles at civilian settlements in the city of Kherson in the past 24 hours. It was said that Russia pushed to regain the places it recently lost and sent many tanks and soldiers to the front.
It was noted that the most violent clashes took place in the town of Bahmut, with the Ukrainian army attacking in the towns of Svatove and Kreminna to pierce the line of defense of the Russians.
Reuters reported that the coastal city of Bahmut, which had a population of 70,000 before the war, was turned into a ghost town with smoke rising from many places.
The Russian army had lost some strategic areas in the Donbas in eastern Ukraine, where the separatists were based, and had withdrawn from most of Kherson.
