The number of corona infections in China has been on the rise since last month and has really taken off since Beijing largely lifted its corona measures this month.
Airfinity expects to reach an initial peak in the number of infections in mid-January with about 3.7 million new cases per day. This is in stark contrast to the tens of thousands of cases reported by Chinese health authorities.
Peak in January
According to Airfinity, the peak death toll will follow in the second half of January with about 25,000 deaths per day. Since December 7, when China largely lifted strict coronavirus measures, the country has officially reported just ten coronavirus deaths. The official death toll since the start of the corona epidemic is 5246. But according to Airfinity, there have been 100,000 corona deaths this month alone.
Due to the huge increase in the number of infections, the United States, India, Japan and Italy, among others, have tightened entry restrictions for travelers from mainland China. For example, travelers must be tested for the corona virus upon arrival in the US or Italy.
