2022 to be recorded as Britain’s ‘hottest year’

The Met Office published provisional data for 2022 on its website, stating that 139 years of average temperature records in the country were broken and that 2022 would be the hottest year on record for the country.

With the highest average annual temperature across the UK, 2022 is expected to surpass the 2014 record of 9.88 degrees Celsius.

In central England, temperatures were above average for every month of the year except December 2022.

Temperatures above 40 degrees for the first time in summer in the country paralyzed life.

Coningsby and Lincolnshire, where the highest temperature was recorded at 40.3 degrees, beat the previous UK record by 1.6 degrees.

The Met Office issued its first red warning for extreme heat in July.

Additionally, Wales recorded a record high temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius, while Scotland hit a new record high of 34.8 degrees Celsius.

For central England, 2022 will be the warmest year on record in a 364-year temperature range.

RAIN ALSO BELOW AVERAGE

In addition to the record temperatures, one of the most striking points for 2022 was the drought.

Except for brief periods in early January and late February, the total rainfall accumulation in Great Britain was below average for the whole year.

Final figures for 2022 will be announced at the end of the year. (AA)
