Step by Serbia to reduce tensions with Kosovo
The Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, announced that tomorrow the barricades, which are the cause of the tension with Kosovo, will be removed.
Vucic, who met the Kosovar Serbs at the Raska barracks near Serbia’s border with Kosovo, made a statement after the meeting. Expressing that they had a very difficult night and meeting, Vucic said: “I asked the Kosovar Serbs to remove the barricades. I wanted the peace and quiet to continue. I heard everyone. I believe that the promises will be fulfilled, ”he said.
Vucic affirmed that the feeling of insecurity among the Kosovar Serbs continues: “The barricades will be removed before noon on Thursday. This is not a 2 hour job. “Maybe it will take 24, maybe 48 hours, but the barricades will come down,” he said. Assessing the possibility of the Kosovar Serbs being detained after the removal of the barricades, Vucic said: “In such a case, they stated that they would put up the barricades so as not to remove them again.”
EU AND US WARRANTY
For their part, the European Union (EU) and the US issued a joint statement after the arrest of former Serbian policeman Dejan Pantic, which sparked tensions between Kosovo and Serbia today, was turned into house arrest.
Petar Petkovic, Director of the Office of the Serbian Government in Kosovo, met with Vucic after the EU-US statement, and stated that they received guarantees from the EU and US for the fulfillment of the demands of the Kosovar Serbs. Petkovic stated that they learned that there is no list from the EU and the US regarding the detention or deportation of Serbs at the barricades, adding that according to existing agreements, the Kosovo Security Force it should go to northern Kosovo beforehand, according to the NATO Kosovo Peacekeeping Force (KFOR). He also noted that a statement was made about the need to get his commander’s approval. (AA)
