US sanctions on Iranian officials

The US Treasury Department said in a statement that sanctions were placed on regime officials linked to the ongoing violence against protesters in Iran.

In the statement, Iran’s attorney general, Mohammad Montazeri, was reported to have been placed on the sanctions list for ordering courts in September to impose harsh sentences on most of those arrested during the protests.

In the statement, it was said that two senior officials of the Basic Force, a paramilitary organization controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Army, will be sanctioned, and that two officials of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Army have been added to the list of sanctions.

It was also indicated in the statement that sanctions would be imposed on the Iranian company Imen Sanat Zaman Fara, which produces equipment for Iranian law enforcement.
