The richest people in the world got into a cell tower fight… Richard Gere’s plan raised famous names
When Hollywood star Richard Gere wanted to build a cell tower on his New York lot, he was up against other famous stars and ultra-rich neighbors.
Things became agitated when Gere announced his plan to erect a 40-foot cell tower on the grounds of his Bedford, New York, hotel, home to millions of dollars’ worth of mansions. The famous actor said that he would take this step to improve the quality of service in the region, but the reactions did not stop.
Many household names living in the region opposed the base station plan, saying it would block their view. Gere’s neighbors in the area include Matt Damon, the Blake Lively-Ryan Reynolds couple, Ralph Lauren and George Soros.
Carolyn Liebling, the actress sister and manager of famed star Jerry Seinfeld, was the name that sparked backlash when she claimed the giant tower would occupy her backyard and completely spoil the view.

THE BASE STATION CRISIS CONTINUES FOR A TIME
Roxanne Spruance, the chef at the Michelin-starred restaurant at Richard Gere’s own hotel, 73, also opposed the plan, saying it would hurt the property’s appeal. Spruance also argued that Gere and his associates had given the base station the green light to approve plans to expand the hotel grounds.
Controversy over the location of the base station had previously created controversy in the area. The telecommunications company took the matter to court last year after the Bedford Planning Board previously vetoed plans to install the station.
