The US administration released thousands of new documents on the Kennedy assassination
The Biden administration shared 12,875 new documents related to the assassination with the public on the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) website.
While most of the documents that were made public were seen to have been removed during the drafting process, Biden kept some of the documents confidential on the grounds that it “could harm intelligence activities.”
Biden announced that the remaining documents will be released by June 30, 2023.
95 PERCENT OF THE DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THE MURDER WERE PUBLISHED
Most of the documents released today are documents belonging to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
With the new documents announced, 95 percent of the documents related to the Kennedy assassination were shared with the public.
DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THE KENNEDY MURDER
The President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Texas, where he was going to work on the elections.
In the investigation by Chief Justice Earl Warren, it was concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, who carried out the assassination, acted alone. However, the investigation was criticized for its alleged incompleteness, and a commission set up in Congress later declared that the assassination might be a conspiracy.
NARA had released a large number of non-confidential documents related to the assassination, as required by the 1992 JFK Act.
Former US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, disclosed thousands of confidential documents in 2017 and 2018, while keeping some confidential documents for national security reasons. The Biden administration, on the other hand, opened thousands of documents on December 15 of last year. (AA)
