ECtHR found France guilty
The ECtHR, in its decision yesterday, ruled that France, by not taking into account the urgent demands for refuge of 3 asylum-seeking families, violated paragraph 1 of article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights on the right to a trial just.
The court decided that France would pay 5,000 euros to the three families separately and a total of 7,150 euros in court costs.
Three families, two Congolese and one Georgian, arrived in France in 2018 to request asylum.
The Governorate of Haute-Garonne, in the south of the country, granted asylum to 3 families, but did not respond to their refugee requests.
Immediately afterwards, 3 families appeared separately before the court of Toulouse. The Toulouse court decided to help asylum seekers with accommodation, but the Haute-Garonne Governorate did not comply with the decision.
Following the provisional decision adopted by the ECtHR in 2018, the accommodation requests of 3 families were fulfilled. (AA)
