Restriction to TikTok and some Chinese apps from Taiwan

According to news from Taiwan’s CNA news agency, officials from the Ministry of Digital Affairs announced that some apps were restricted due to posing a threat to national information security.

Bytedance’s TikTok, its Chinese version Douyin and Xingin’s Instagram-like social media and e-commerce platform Xiaohongshu were among the apps that were stopped.

It was reported that the measure was taken within the framework of the ban on all software developed in mainland China, with the amendment made in October to the Regulation on the Principles for Restricting the Use of Products Harmful to Information Security in Government Institutions.

In the US, the states of Texas, Maryland, South Carolina, and South Dakota have banned the use of TikTok on phones and government offices assigned by the state government, due to a cybersecurity threat.

Chris Wray, director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), said in a statement last week that control of the social media platform Tiktok is in the hands of the Chinese government, saying this raises security concerns. US domestic.

TikTok, which has 85 million users in the US, is in talks with the US government over data security concerns.

The state of Indiana sued the company alleging that the Chinese government misinformed the public about access to user data and exposed young users to adult content. (AA)
