Germany urges Balkan countries to support Russian sanctions
German Chancellor Scholz spoke at the press conference following the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tirana.
Calling for a common stance against Russia, Scholz said: “We must converge our positions. Regarding sanctions, we expect EU candidate countries to comply with the EU sanctions policy.” he said he.
Chancellor Scholz reiterated his country’s support for the accession of the Western Balkan countries to the EU, but also expressed his expectations of these countries.
Noting that his country strongly supports the EU membership bids of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, Scholz said: “We will do our best to enhance cooperation and speed up the accession of the countries of the Western Balkans to the EU.
