UK government ‘food crisis’ warning
Speaking to the BBC, Batters called on the British government to support the farmer in the face of rising energy, fertilizer and costs, otherwise the country could face a potential food crisis.
“At a time when global volatility threatens the stability of global food production and food and energy security, the UK food industry is under threat,” Batters said. I fear that with the future of Britain’s fruit and vegetable supply at stake, the country is sleepwalking towards a larger food supply crisis.” he used his statements.
Noting that fertilizer prices in the country have increased by more than 3 times since 2019, Batters said that feed and diesel prices have also increased by more than 75% in the said period. Food prices in the UK rose 14.6 percent in November.
The British economy contracted 0.2 percent in the third quarter of this year and inflation in the country continued to rise, driven by energy and food prices, reaching its highest in 41 years at 11, 1 percent per year in October. (AA)
