Burkina Faso announced that it has suspended broadcasts by the French radio station Radio France Internationale (RFI).

Government spokesman Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo said in a statement that the radio’s activities were suspended until further notice, arguing that terrorist organizations Al-Qaeda and ISIS-related groups issued a message threatening civilians who joined the army. The statement states that the message broadcast on the radio contributed to the terrorists’ maneuver to prevent thousands of Burkinabe from joining the army.

The Burkina Faso government announced that it will recruit 50,000 soldiers at the national and local levels, with the campaign it launched last month.

Anti-French actions were carried out after the coup in Burkina Faso, where there have been two coups this year over security concerns.

Terror groups linked to Al-Qaeda and ISIS in neighboring Mali have been carrying out frequent attacks in northern and eastern Burkina Faso since 2015.
