New UN resolution against Israel
The United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted the draft resolution on Israel to put an end to all activities that aim to change the status, character and demographic structure of the occupied Palestinian territories and that do not comply with the right international.
At the session held on November 30 at the UN General Assembly, 5 draft resolutions on the issue of Palestine and the Middle East were adopted. Within the scope of the resolution entitled “Peaceful settlement of the Palestinian problem”, the General Assembly called on Israel to cease all settlement activities, land seizures and house demolition, and to end arbitrary arrests and detentions.
The bill passed with a vote of 153 to 9. Canada, Hungary, Israel, Liberia, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, and the United States voted against the bill. With the resolution entitled “Golan Heights” adopted at the General Assembly session, it was stated that Israel did not apply its own laws in the Golan Heights, which was occupied in 1967, and that there was no legal provision or validity. Israel was also called upon to annul its 1981 decision in this regard.
In another draft resolution adopted at the session, the Secretariat for Palestinian Rights was requested to dedicate its activities in 2023 to the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the “Nakba” (Disaster); Among these activities, it was requested to organize a high-level event on this topic on May 15, 2023. 30 countries opposed this decision, including Israel, USA, Canada, Australia, UK, Germany, Austria, Denmark , Greece, Hungary, Italy and the Netherlands.
The General Assembly adopted two more resolutions, entitled “Committee for the observance of the inalienable rights of the Palestinians” and “Special information program of the Secretariat of World Communications on the Palestinian question”.
CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL INTERVENTION FROM PALESTINE
On the other hand, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtiyya demanded international intervention to stop Israel’s crimes. Istiyya made a written statement after the murder of 2 Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp.
Reacting to Israel’s killing of two youths, Ishtiye accused Israeli forces of “increasing tensions in an environment where international politics based on double standards prevail, where there is no punishment or accountability.” Prime Minister Ishtiyya also called for international intervention to stop Israel’s crimes.
The Israeli army also declared that it was on alert in the occupied West Bank in case of an escalation of tension after the death of 2 Palestinians. It was claimed that 2 Palestinians were killed and 1 wounded during the raid by Israeli forces on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin in the morning. (AA)
