Public error in the Netherlands caused 2,090 children to be separated from their families

CBS has updated the number of children in government protection from families experiencing legal, social and financial problems due to mismanagement of childcare support.

According to the current figures provided to CBS by the Recovery Assistance Agency (UHT), which applies to families who are victims of care assistance, it was indicated that the number of children separated from their families, who announced as 1675 in May 2022, it was 2090 in the period from 2015 to June 2022.

Consequently, the number of children who had to be separated from their families was recorded to be 415 more than previously announced.

FAMILIES DROUGHTS TO FINANCIAL DESTRUCTION

Due to tax miscalculations, families whose childcare allowance was cut for reasons such as “falsification of documents” and who were asked to pay a large amount in the past had their children taken away by demand. who neglected their care after the financial destruction they experienced.

At the request of the Ministry of Justice and Security, in the statement made by CBS in May 2022 on the care subsidy tables, it was noted that a total of 1,675 children were “accidentally” taken under state protection, 1,115 in 2015-2020 and 560 in 2021.

THOUSANDS OF FAMILY MEMBERS ACCIDENTALLY DECLARED “FRAUD”

The Treasury had decided to cut the allocations to some families that received aid for the care of their children and withdraw the aid for erroneous or incomplete declarations, lack of documents, irregularity and fraudulent documents.

The commission of inquiry, established by the Dutch Parliament in December 2020, revealed that tens of thousands of families receiving childcare assistance were wrongly labeled as “fraud” by state officials and that action was taken against these families.

In the report prepared by the commission, it was indicated that there were errors in the income tests carried out on families receiving child care assistance, those of certain ethnic origins and those with dual nationalities.

The government resigned in January 2021 when it was revealed that there had been discrimination and it was decided to pay compensation to families who had been discriminated against and suffered from the cut-off in care benefits. (AA)
