Message from the US Republican leader on aid to Ukraine: “There is no blank check”
Following the midterm elections in the United States Congress on November 8, the new Congress will take office on January 3.
President Joe Biden met with Republican and Democratic leaders at the White House on the latest agenda from the formerly Democratic-dominated Congress.
Speaking to members of the press at the White House after the meeting, McCarthy recalled that the Republicans will assume the majority in the House of Representatives starting in January. McCarthy referred to the aid given to Ukraine in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Stating that Russia’s war was “unfair”, McCarthy said: “However, I don’t give anybody a blank check for nothing. We’re talking about the tax dollars of hard-working American people. I want to make sure our spending goes to the right places.” He used his statements.
When asked about former US President Donald Trump’s controversial meeting with Nick Fuentes, known for his anti-Semitic views, McCarthy said: “I don’t think anyone should spend time with Fuentes. This person has no place in the Republican Party. Fuentes’s ideology has no place in society,” he said.
THE “DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED CONGRESS DID NOT WORK” CRITICISM
McCarthy also called attention to his visit to the Mexican border last week, saying the border is becoming an increasingly unsafe place and urging Biden to visit.
Emphasizing that contrary to what the Democrats are saying, the US economy is in bad shape right now, McCarthy said:
“It is unfortunate that the Democrats have controlled both the House of Representatives and the Senate for 2 years, and today we are speaking with the president. Perhaps that is why the majority of the House of Representatives went to the Republicans. The Democrats did not do their job. They controlled the entire government but waited until the last minute to talk about what to do and what not to do. This hurt the American people. Because Congress was not working, Congress was not doing its job. I will not sit back and work for the American people.”
WHITE HOUSE STATEMENT
On the other hand, in the White House statement regarding the meeting, it was stated that a possible strike by rail workers was on the meeting’s agenda, and warned that such a strike could have “destructive” consequences. For the country.
The meeting also noted that both government funding and aid to Ukraine were discussed, and it was emphasized that Biden believed that finding a middle ground by listening to opinions from different perspectives was the most correct method. (AA)
