USA: Clashes between Russia and Ukraine in Kherson subside
The US military and defense official, who did not want their names released, briefed reporters at the Pentagon on the Russia-Ukraine war.
The military official said: “(in Kherson) Russia has crossed to the east side of the (Dnieper) river, but mutual shelling continues. Both sides fire around 100 guns a day.” he said he.
Noting that the Ukrainians continued their artillery fire against Russia thanks to the US-supplied HIMARS rockets, he subsided.
A senior defense official said that Russia continues to target Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure with airstrikes.
“These horrific attacks are punishing the Ukrainian people as winter approaches. They have no legitimate military purpose. These attacks also show that Russia is willing to increase the nuclear security risk that will affect not only Ukraine but also the region.” he said.
Stating that the war will be tough during the winter months, the official noted that they expect the Ukrainian army to continue fighting and have provided the Ukrainian army with more than 200 generators and necessary winter equipment and supplies. (AA)
