US Senate passes bill that ‘protects same-sex marriage’
The United States Senate voted on a bill entitled “Respect for Marriage Act”, which was discussed in the General Assembly.
The bill, which needed 60 votes to pass the 100-seat Senate, passed with 61 “yes” votes to 36 “no” votes.
TURN IN THE ASSEMBLY OF REPRESENTATIVES
The bill will be voted on in the General Assembly of the House of Representatives in the next stage. If the bill wins the necessary majority here, it will go to the desk of US President Joe Biden to become law.
Same-sex marriages are currently legally permitted in the US based on the 2015 Supreme Court decision. However, it was claimed that the Supreme Court could also overturn this decision after overturning the decision that previously guaranteed the same sex. abortion, and it was stated that this should be guaranteed by federal law. Democrats in Congress took action on this issue.
