Natasa Pirc Musar is the new president of Slovenia

According to data from the official website of the Slovenian State Election Commission (DVK), 99 percent of the votes were counted.

The independent candidate Pirc Musar, who received the support of the Pirate Party of Slovenia and the European Green Party, crossed the 50 percent threshold by receiving 53.86 percent of the vote. Thus, Pirc Musar was elected the new and first female president of the country.

According to unofficial results, the vote rate for Anze Logar, the independent candidate supported by the Democratic Party of Slovenia (SDS), who received the most votes in the previous round, stood at 46.14%.

In the election, 53 percent of the 1,696,893 registered voters went to the polls and voted.

DECLARATION OF VICTORY OF MUSAR

In her first statement, 54-year-old Pirc Musar, also known as the “Woman of Steel” who declared victory in the presidential election, said that Slovenia deserves a president who upholds decisive, honest, sincere, tolerant and respectful dialogue. .

Pirc Musar said: “During my trip to our beautiful Slovenia in the last five months, I heard from citizens who want a president who is independent and has no political barriers. I think they expressed this will at the polls today.” he said he.

Congratulating Pirc Musar, fellow candidate Logar said in a statement: “If Pirc Musar listens to all of us, he will be a good president. He then he will get our support to overcome the differences.” he said.

SELECTION OCTOBER 23

On October 23, when the first round of the presidential election was held, Logar, the independent candidate supported by SDS, received 33 percent of the vote and Pirc Musar received 26 percent of the vote.

Another favorite candidate, Social Democrat Milan Brglez, who was supported by Movement for Freedom (PS) leader and Prime Minister Robert Golob, won 15 percent of the vote and said he would support Pirc Musar in the second round.

Among the 7 candidates in the presidential election, independent candidate Vladimir Prebilic received 10 percent, Resni.ca candidate Sabina Sencar received 5 percent, New Slovenian (NSI) candidate Janez Cigler Kralk 4 percent and leftist candidate Miha Kordis 2 percent.

It was announced that the turnout in the first round of the elections was 50 percent.

In Slovenia, which gained independence in 1991, presidential elections are held every 5 years. (AA)
