Kenneth Mejia needs to understand why his behavior looks bad

letters to the editor

About the publisher: The real problem with Kenneth Mejia, the Los Angeles City Comptroller, who receives referral fees for hiring new employees who worked in his office, isn’t whether he broke any ethical rules. Rather, the point is that, despite the nature of his campaign, he doesn’t really get it.

I voted for him because I thought he got it. And I think we all know what “it” means.

Either way, he can break through that hurdle of bad publicity by immediately donating $1,000 to a legitimate tenant organization that helps people who can’t afford the luxuries of the apartment he lives in.

Considering Mejia’s salary of $252,042, he could certainly afford a donation of $1,000 and probably more. Just a thought.

About the publisher: In last fall’s scrutiny race, the obvious choice was then-LA City Councilman Paul Koretz, an effective official.

To my surprise, the Times editors supported the inexperienced Mejia, who previously called Joe Biden a “rapist” and suggested that Hillary Clinton be put in jail. The voters overwhelmingly chose Mejia.

Mejia quickly got into trouble. He allegedly commented on the sex life of his campaign workers, pressured employees to move into his apartment building and received compensation for referring his employees to that building.

The controller is supposed to keep an eye on the city, but it seems like the city has to keep an eye on their controller.
