About the publisher: Aren’t children more important than at least some of our freedoms? The people who drafted the constitution made sure to include specific safeguards, including the right to free speech and to own and bear arms in support of a “well-regulated militia”. (“Even as Mass Shootings Rise, Federal Judges Strike Down Gun Safety Laws,” Opinion, March 31)
Our Constitution says nothing about the protection of children. Perhaps the drafters thought this was unnecessary because the need for childcare was self-evident. However, carrying and using firearms leads to avoidable deaths

The lords of Philadelphia over 200 years ago never considered the possibility of evil or crazy people killing children in school. Such an atrocity was unimaginable.
Bad deeds are usually illegal; It’s not madness. So if everyone gets guns, some kids will get slaughtered.
We cannot undo children whose lives have been ended by armed lunatics. But we can and must prevent some people from carrying guns, regardless of what some think the Constitution requires.
It’s embarrassing that some are now saying, “I wish I lived in a country where citizens care more about their children than their guns.”

About the publisher: What does the US Constitution have in common with the Bible? Answer: Both are outdated and prone to abuse and misinterpretation.
Today they allow ridiculous interpretations that conveniently fit with absurd prejudices at the expense of hapless victims.
If gun-friendly judges continue to rule, their biased interpretation of the constitution will continue to allow endless mass shootings. It has to stop.

About the publisher: How interesting that some Supreme Court justices have ruled that the gun laws of the 17th and 18th centuries should now influence their decisions on gun safety laws.
My prediction is that birth control will be banned after that, because it didn’t exist in the 18th and 19th centuries. And since women had no rights back then, those rights can be wiped out.

About the publisher: One letter writer misleadingly describes what he believes makes the AR-15 unsafe for civilian use.
The truth is that all guns are designed to kill; it is not exclusive to the AR-15.
Most modern rifle bullets are slotted to increase velocity at the expense of mass. All bullets produce a shock wave upon contact. There are much more powerful hunting calibers designed to kill very large game.
I don’t think the AR-15 is the monster of the gun world. Humans are the real monsters. Knowledge is key.
