About the editor: Thanks to Patt Morrison for her beautifully written article about Los Angeles landmarks celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, including the Angelus Temple.
My paternal grandparents, poor and uneducated Sicilian immigrants, converted under the comprehensive ministry of Sister Aimee Semple McPherson and attended the first service in the Angelus Temple on January 1, 1923. Twenty-two years later, my parents attended the college next to the temple.
Although Sister Aimee endured endless conflict before she died in 1944, her impact on my life and the lives of millions of people around the world is undeniable. And the 100th anniversary of her scandalous disappearance is only three years away.
Los Angeles is steeped in amazing history. As author William Faulkner so aptly said, “The past is never dead.”

About the editor: We have a local sweetheart in Patt Morrison. She researches and gives us a crash course in our history, architecture, politics, demographics and everything else that brings life to our city.
Your work pairs particularly well with the snow on our local mountains, making this metropolis look more beautiful than ever. It’s enough to make us all citizen boosters, even acknowledging the wrinkles and blemishes in our past and present.
Thank you, Ms. Morrison. Keep writing and we’ll keep reading.

About the editor: For five years in the late 1990s, I led the Together We Are Best campaign, organized by then Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, with the support of government and business leaders. Our files were packed with the many discoveries and innovations that originated in LA and are still relevant to people around the world.
Of course there was the bikini and the internet, but there was also the microwave and the highway system. It was a refreshing reminder that LA remains a great place to live, work and dream.
