Letters to the Editor: Shasta County removes Dominion voting machines at its own risk

About the editor: In your article about Shasta County’s move to remove Dominion voting machines, you use the phrase “unproven allegations of voter fraud.” Given the repeated reports, testimony from election officials, lawsuits, and even ridicule from Fox personalities who subsequently went on the air and supported the claims, I think it’s time to call these claims for what they are. They are not “unproven”, which seems to imply that we haven’t quite found that evidence yet, but are “disproved” or “false”, for which we have a majority of the evidence, while the “unproven” camp has none. Word choice matters and it’s about time our leading newspapers spoke it out.

About the editor: We often hear less populated rural counties in Northern California complain that they don’t have a voice in Sacramento. After reading that one of Shasta County’s supervisors is approaching conspiracy theorist and pillow maker Mike Lindell for election advice, all I can say is it won’t help your case.

About the editor: The voting machine company Dominion looks set to win the $1.6 billion lawsuit against Fox News. Wouldn’t it be nice if Dominion agreed to accept a dollar verdict – if Fox News just dropped the misleading word “news” from the title? I mean, it’s just a word, isn’t it?

About the editor: I noticed that two LA Times articles in the March 2 newspaper were side by side. What do these two stories tell us about America and thus about developments in Spain? Well, one country is clearly evolving into a healthy, vibrant democratic society, while the other is evolving into a deeply regressive, and some would say repressive, society. The attack on the integrity of the electoral process, which inevitably leads to voter suppression, coupled with the attack on a woman’s bodily autonomy, is a clear sign that freedom is under threat.

In 2023, Spain can be seen as a model of how representative democracies should work. It is tragic that America has given up its supremacy in this area.
