Legendary coach Terry Venables passes away
Legendary coach Terry Venables, who led the England team to the semi-finals of the 1996 European Football Championship (EURO 96), has died at the age of 80.
The statement made on behalf of Venables’ family said: “We are saddened to lose a wonderful husband and father who passed away peacefully after a long illness.”
Venables, who played for Chelsea, Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers in his football career, coached Barcelona, Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Leeds United, as well as the England national team.
The England National Team, under the direction of Venables, faced Germany in the semi-finals of EURO 96 at Wembley Stadium, and Germany got its ticket to the final after the penalty missed by Gareth Southgate, current coach of the national team.
The British coach, who ended Barcelona’s 11-year desire for a championship in the 1984-85 season, won the Federation Cup with Tottenham in 1991. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
